APEX SERIES FAQ
Questions Boat Owners Ask
Everything you need to know about our Patent-Pending gear-lock mounting systems.
What makes the Apex Series different from standard magnets?
Traditional magnetic mounts rely solely on friction to stay in place, which often leads to "sliding" in rough water.
The Apex Series utilizes a Patent-Pending radial spline (Hirth) interface. While the magnets handle the vertical hold, the interlocking gear teeth handle 100% of the lateral shear force. This means your cushions resist slide, even at high speeds or in heavy chop.
Will the Apex Retract really sit flush with my deck?
Yes. The Apex Retract is engineered with a gravity-weighted internal pedestal. When the cushion is removed, the mount retracts to just 2mm above the deck—virtually invisible to the foot.
When you bring the cushion near, the internal magnets overcome gravity and lift the pedestal to an active height to engage the gear-lock.
Is the Apex Lite a "No-Drill" installation?
Exactly. The Apex Lite was designed specifically for the retrofit market. It utilizes the existing snap stud holes already on your boat. Simply unscrew your old hardware and screw in the Apex Lite for an instant upgrade.
How strong are the magnets?
We use industrial-grade, high-flux N52 Neodymium magnets. Each connection point provides approximately 20 lbs of vertical pull force. When combined with our mechanical gear-lock, the connection is significantly more secure than a standard magnet.
What is ASA and why is it better than standard plastic?
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a high-performance "marine-grade" polymer. Unlike standard ABS or common plastics, ASA is highly UV-resistant and thermally stable.
It is designed to live in direct sunlight and saltwater environments without yellowing, becoming brittle, or warping.
How are the magnets protected from rust?
The magnets are nickel-plated and then fully enclosed within the durable ASA housings. Additionally, our self-clearing port design ensures that salt spray and sand are flushed through the unit rather than being trapped against the hardware.
Will HoldFast stay secure while trailering?
While our gear-lock system provides incredible security, trailering conditions (high-speed wind shear and turbulence) vary significantly.
Because HoldFast makes removal so effortless, we always recommend removing or strapping down cushions during high-speed transport to ensure 100% safety.
Will the magnets interfere with my GPS or Compass?
Magnetic fields dissipate very quickly over distance. When installed in standard cushion locations (seats, sunpads, bolsters), they are not strong enough to affect modern marine electronics or fluxgate compasses.
What hardware is included?
Every kit comes complete with 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel screws (#8). Everything you need for a permanent, corrosion-proof installation is in the box.
