HOLDFAST FAQ

Questions Boat Owners Ask

Installation, strength, materials, and real-world use.

Will HoldFast stay secure while trailering?

Each magnet provides more than 20 lb of vertical pull force. In most normal use situations this keeps cushions secure.

However, trailering conditions vary widely. Wind, speed, and cushion design can all affect hold. Because of this we recommend either strapping cushions down or removing them during transport.

The good news is that HoldFast makes removal and reinstallation quick and easy.

How strong are the magnets?

HoldFast uses high strength N52 neodymium magnets. Each magnet provides 20+ pounds of holding force when paired with the other magnet.

What are the magnets made of?

The magnets are nickel plated N52 neodymium magnets designed for strong magnetic performance.

How are the magnets protected from water?

Most HoldFast magnet assemblies are fully encapsulated in ASA to protect them from moisture and exposure.

The low-profile mount uses a mounting screw that passes through the housing to attach to the OEM snap screw hole. Because of this, it is protected by an ASA housing and designed to be water resistant, but it is not a fully sealed component.

Why use ASA for the mounts?

ASA is well suited for outdoor environments. It resists UV exposure, handles heat well, and holds up to weather and moisture better than many common plastics.

This makes it a strong choice for marine hardware that lives in sun and outdoor conditions.

Why does HoldFast cost more than snaps?

HoldFast is built with premium components including high strength magnets and stainless steel hardware.

Every mount was CAD designed from the ground up with boaters and long-term durability in mind. Components are produced in ASA for outdoor performance.

The goal is a cleaner system that lasts and performs better than traditional snap hardware.

Will HoldFast work on existing boats?

Yes. HoldFast was designed as an upgrade for boats already on the water, not just new builds.

Will it damage my cushions?

Traditional snaps place repeated stress on the vinyl and attachment points. HoldFast reduces that twisting and pull force during removal.

Will the magnets interfere with electronics?

The magnets are small and localized within the mounting system. They are not strong enough to affect normal boat electronics when installed in typical cushion mounting locations.

Can the system rust?

HoldFast uses stainless steel hardware and ASA housings designed to resist corrosion in marine environments.

Why switch away from snaps?

Snap hardware works, but it can corrode, loosen, and wear vinyl over time. HoldFast offers a cleaner and easier alternative for mounting boat cushions.
